Botswana economy recorded an exemplary growth of 4.8% in the first quarter of 2018 according to Statistics Botswana. Announcing this at a Press conference, Botswana’s Statistician General Burton Mguni attributed the GDP growth to value addition in mining, and growth in transport, communications, finance and business services. These sectors recorded a growth of 12.1 %, 6.5%, and 5.4% respectively.
The value addition in diamond grew by 11.5%. The output of diamonds and prices continued to improve contributing to the overall growth during the first quarter. However, non-mining sector growth was 4.2% compared to 5.2% in the same quarter of the previous year.
